NEET Re-Exam at 7 Cachar Centres, Parents Must Keep 100 Metres Distance: Administration

The Cachar district administration and police have completed preparations for the smooth and fair conduct of the NEET-UG 2026 re-examination scheduled for June 21. Officials said enhanced security and strict monitoring measures have been put in place following directions from higher authorities and guidelines issued by the National Testing Agency (NTA).

Addressing a press conference at the old conference hall of the District Commissioner’s office on Saturday, Additional District Commissioner of Cachar, Jagriti Kalwar, ACS, said the examination would be conducted at seven centres across the district. The centres include Cachar College, Gurucharan University, Kendriya Vidyalaya NIT Silchar, Kendriya Vidyalaya Masimpur, Kendriya Vidyalaya Tarapur, and three examination centres operating within the NIT Silchar campus, including KV NIT Silchar.

Kalwar said the administration was exercising extra vigilance as the examination is being conducted again after the cancellation of the earlier test. She said strict instructions had been received from higher authorities and all necessary steps were being taken in accordance with NTA guidelines. She assured that the district administration would make every effort to ensure the successful conduct of the examination.

An Additional Superintendent of Police from Cachar Police informed reporters that extensive security arrangements had been made to maintain fairness and prevent any irregularities. He said parents and guardians would not be allowed to remain near examination centres and must maintain a distance of at least 100 metres from the venues.

Officials also reiterated the list of permitted items for candidates. Examinees will be allowed to carry only a valid identity proof, two passport-sized photographs and a transparent water bottle inside the examination premises. Mobile phones, electronic devices and other prohibited items will not be allowed.

The NEET-UG 2026 re-examination is being conducted nationwide after the National Testing Agency cancelled the original examination held on May 3 following a major paper leak. Investigations revealed that a “guess paper” circulated through messaging platforms contained questions that closely matched the actual examination paper, compromising the integrity of one of India’s largest entrance examinations. The examination was officially cancelled on May 12 and a fresh test was scheduled for June 21 under stricter security measures.

The controversy triggered widespread concern among students, parents and educators across the country. Investigations by agencies, including the Central Bureau of Investigation, have resulted in arrests in several states and exposed links between the leak and individuals connected to the examination process. The incident also had a severe human cost. Since the cancellation of the examination, several NEET aspirants across different parts of India have reportedly took their own lives, with families and authorities often citing the stress, uncertainty and emotional distress surrounding the examination crisis as contributing factors.

Authorities have stated that the re-examination will be conducted under enhanced multi-layer security protocols to ensure a fair and transparent process for all candidates. In Cachar, officials have urged candidates to arrive at their examination centres on time and strictly adhere to all guidelines issued by the NTA and district administration.
