Guru Charan College’s NSS unit organise Tobacco Control Campaign

A Tobacco Control Campaign was organised on the 20th of May 2019, by members of the National Service Scheme (NSS) unit of Guru Charan College. The campaign was organised as a part of the “Pledge for Life” program of the group. The campaign was organised at the premises of Niranjan Paul Institute at College Road. Ten students from the NSS Unit of the college went to the school at around 12 in the afternoon to make the students aware about the harmful effects of consuming tobacco.

Subhasish Choudhury, the tobacco control leader of the unit and a student of the college shared that the awareness mission was successful. They could make the students understand the danger of tobacco on them, their friends or anyone in the family.

In India, there has been an unprecedented increase in the number of school children falling in the trap of consuming tobacco like pan-masala, ghutka and other harmful eatables or smoking beedi or cigarette. NSS Unit of GC College has been trying to spread awareness against tobacco use in slums and villages and students in schools. There will be many such tobacco awareness campaigns among other projects by the NSS Unit. Also, it is worth mentioning that a village near Itkhola Ghat is adopted by the NSS Unit, which lies in the bank of Barak. The children of the village are given free coaching and other educational and health facilities.

The campaign grabbed keen attention of the students of the school. Madhulina, Sangeeta, Pinak, Monisha and Chandini were present from the unit with their social media leader Pravina. They have urged all students present to not consume any kind of tobacco and also not allow anyone to do so in their family, friends and neighbourhood. The awareness campaign was attended by more than 100 students till class 10.
