CM meets Nitin Gadkari, seeks instructions for “expeditious completion” of Mahasadak
The Assam Chief Minister Dr. Himanta Biswa Sarma had revealed in an assembly session recently that the remaining incomplete work of the 49 km stretch between Lumding and Silchar of the Mahasadak or East-West corridor would start this year. According to him, the National Highway Authority of India (NHAI) had secured a loan of Rs 1,824 crores which will be invested in the completion of the remaining 49 km stretch that was left incomplete for years due to ‘technical reasons’.
Today, CM Himanta Biswa Sarma met with Union Cabinet Minister Nitin Gadkari in New Delhi where he talked about the construction work of the remaining 48.5 km stretch in the Mahasadak.
The proposed construction work of the remaining 48.5 km stretch between Lumding and Silchar will cost around Rs 1,824 crores for which the NHAI has already secured a loan. While meeting with Nitin Gadkari today, the Union Minister of Road Transport and Highways of India, Sarma sought his instructions on the ‘expeditious completion of the remaining 48.5 km.
He shared on Social Media after the meeting, “Had an opportunity to seek blessings of Hon’ble Union Minister Sri Nitin Gadkari in Delhi. I discussed with him the critical 35-km elevated Kaziranga Corridor and how this is earnestly needed to protect our wildlife including Assam’s pride Rhinos. It shall also give filip to tourism.”
He added, “Also requested Sri Gadkari to help Assam by giving instructions for expeditious completion of 48.5 km stretch (Rs 1823 cr) on Lumding – Silchar NH, which is vital for people of Barak Valley. Assam is firm to strengthen its road network further.”
It is noteworthy to mention that, on the instruction of the central government and the NHAI, the Assam Government has agreed to install toll gates at the portion of the Mahasadak East-West corridor within Assam, to which they had earlier objected. The CM also mentioned that the tender of the project will be floated in December 2021 and as of now, the DPR is being prepared.
