Fake CBI officer in Karimganj; Well-educated men impersonating and looting businesses, 2 arrested
The youths of the Karimganj district are getting too influenced by the hit Hindi Movies. Somedays there are Munna Bhai type MBBS and today, there is a story that resembles Aksay Kumar and Anupam Kher’s ‘Special 26’.
In Karimganj, a man has been raiding business establishments impersonating a CBI officer. His fluency in the language and demeanor as an officer forces proprietors to believe him. According to sources, he collected information about the stores he was raiding and used the inconsistencies to demand money. He threatened to seal shops and even jail culprits.
His last call to a workshop brought his nemesis. The proprietor of the workshop called Karimganj Police and Additional SP, Partha Protim Das launched an investigation to trace the said CBI officer. Das used mobile tracking technology to trace the culprits. As it turned out, the call was made from the mobile phone of Dilowar Hussain. Police officials caught him from Ratabari.
Hussain was about to destroy the sim and lodge a police complaint stating that he has lost his phone. But Additional SP and his team stopped Hussian. Further interrogation revealed that Hussain did not make the calls. From Karimganj, Rashid Ahmed was detained. The police officials have secured enough evidence to confirm that Rashid was the one impersonating a CBI officer and demanding money from business owners.
Rashid Ahmed is a well-educated man who owns a Pizza Station in Patherkandi. It is a modern food joint with best of equipment. He has studied law and graduated from Bangalore, as per his statement. How and why he got into extorsion is something that remains unknown. The Police is investigating the matter further to unearth the number of shopowners they have looted. The proprietor who complained said, the CBI officer was demanding Rs 2 lakh.
