Cachar DC’s Driver Killed After Being Hit By FCI SUV In Silchar
Yet another fatal road accident involving a vehicle with a red name plate has been reported from Silchar. In a tragic incident in Ramnagar on Tuesday night (March 17), Hari Singha, the driver of the Cachar Deputy Commissioner’s official vehicle, died on the spot after being allegedly hit by a Bolero SUV.
Singha, a resident of Larmagram in Ramnagar, was riding a scooter along the road when a speeding Bolero belonging to the Food Corporation of India (FCI) allegedly rammed into him from behind. The impact threw him onto the road, leading to his instant death. The SUV bore a signboard reading “On Duty Food Corporation of India, DO, Silchar”, but notably did not have a registered number plate at the time of the accident.
Police reached the spot promptly, recovered the body, and sent it to Silchar Medical College and Hospital for post-mortem examination. The vehicle involved in the incident has been seized, and further investigation is underway.
Notably, this is not the first time that a vehicle assigned to a government department has allegedly been involved in a fatal accident in Silchar, raising concerns over road safety and accountability.
Hari Sinha was serving as the government vehicle driver of the Cachar District Commissioner.
Notably, a similar fatal accident was reported on October 2, 2025, when a speeding car allegedly registered with the CPWD hit and killed Sushil Das in Meherpur, Silchar, raising recurring concerns over the conduct of vehicles associated with government departments and growing VIP Culture.
