
Katigorah: Police Enter Holy Flower School as Probe Into Child’s Death Intensifies
Police have begun an investigation into the death of a five-year-old student inside a classroom at Holy Flower Senior Secondary School in Katigorah. The incident, which triggered outrage across the area, is being investigated following a complaint filed by the family of the deceased child.
On Saturday (9 May) at around 11:30 am, a police team led by Sub-Inspector (SI) Vishal Sinha visited the school and carried out an investigation at the campus. The team reportedly spoke with school authorities and inspected the classroom where the incident took place. The police remained at the school for nearly one and a half hours before leaving at around 1 pm.
According to Officer-in-Charge (OC) Nilkamal Baruah of Katigorah Police Station, a case has been registered based on the complaint lodged by the family members of the deceased child. The case has been registered as Case No. 22/2026 under Sections 106 and 75 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita.
The officer stated that police are examining all aspects of the incident and that the investigation is continuing. He added that legal action would be taken as per the findings of the inquiry.
The deceased child Shakibul Alam, is a KG-1 student of the school. The incident took place on Thursday during school hours inside the classroom. According to allegations made by the family, the child died after food became lodged in his throat while he was inside the classroom.
Family members have alleged negligence on the part of the school authorities and staff present during the incident. A written complaint was submitted to Katigorah Police Station on Friday by the child’s uncle, Bilal Uddin, alleging that negligence by the school authorities led to the child’s death.
Reports claim that a teacher and a classroom helper were present inside the room during the incident. The family has alleged that despite the child struggling for several minutes, timely assistance was not provided. Meanwhile, the school administration, while addressing the media, informed that the teachers found negligent in connection with the incident have been suspended. The incident created strong reactions across the Katigorah area after details of the classroom incident emerged.
Meanwhile, the condition of the child’s mother has reportedly worsened following the death of her only son. She was initially admitted to Katigorah Model Hospital on Thursday after falling ill due to shock and grief. On Saturday, as her condition reportedly became critical, she was referred to Shrigouri Hospital for further treatment. She is currently undergoing treatment there.
