Durga Puja Visit Turns Distressing as Girl Alleges Molestation, Accused Absconding
A veterinary doctor has been accused of attempting to molest a young woman in Malugram under Dholai Police Station in Cachar district. The incident allegedly took place on 18 October when the girl was returning home after visiting a Durga Puja pandal. A complaint has been lodged at Dholai Police Station by the girl’s family, while the accused, identified as Rasendu Nath, is reportedly absconding.
A woman addressing the media said the girl had initially not disclosed the incident to her family. According to her, the family learnt about the alleged incident only after making enquiries, following which the girl shared her ordeal with them.
The incident has triggered demands for the immediate arrest of the accused. On 25 October, more than 50 men and women, including members of the Maira Paibi organisation, gathered at Dholai Police Station and urged the police to take action against the accused.
The protesters expressed their anger over the alleged delay in arresting the accused, as several days had passed since the incident was reported.
Police have initiated an investigation into the allegations and are searching for the accused. The allegations are yet to be established through the investigation, and further details are awaited.
