Rangirkhari Police arrests Cleric for allegedly raping 7-year-old; Parents lodged complaint

A cleric was arrested from Kanakpur by Cachar Police based on a complaint of sexual harassment. According to the available information, the cleric sexually harassed a minor while tutoring her. Later a complaint was filed by her parents with the police and he was taken into the custody of Rangirkhari Police.

This incident happened on October 29 in Silchar’s Kanakpur area. The cleric, Jainul Haque Laskar was tutoring a seven-year-old minor at her home, and taking the advantage of not having her parents around, he went to the extent to rape that minor. After her parents returned home and she complained about her “teacher”, they went to the Rangirkhari Police Station the next day.

On October 30, the parents went to file an FIR against the cleric Jainul Haque and based on the complaints the police started an investigation into the matter.

The cleric was arrested by the police after an investigation and 354 IPC of Six POCSO act, 447, 376AB. He was produced in the District Court last Monday by the police and he was sent to prison based on the court proceedings.
