33 inmates one worker test positive in Karimganj; Drive will continue says Superintendent

Mass transmission Covid19 breaks into the Karimganj prison. So far, 33 prisoners and one worker have tested positive for Covid 19 in the district jail.

Prison Superintendent if Karimganj Jail, Sanjib Kumar Chetia informed that the Covid testing drive inside the cells is going on since May 3. “On May 3, we tested 14 samples and out them six happened to be positive. This is when we decided that we need to aggressively test the inmates,” said Chetia.

Yesterday 89 other samples were tested in the Karimganj District Jail. “We found 28 to be positive yesterday. Out of them, 27 were inmates and one female worker. The worker does not stay inside the jail. She lives at her own residence in Karimganj and visits the jail premises for professional purposes,” informed Chetia. He added that the drive will continue inside the jail.

In Karimganj District there are 373 active cases as of May 7. Yesterday, 104 individuals tested positive for Covid 19 in Karimganj and 34 got discharged.
