After knocking out Bangladesh Tigers, Crack Gladiators in the semis, AB Katigorah stuns star-studded Badarpur Royals
Bangladesh Tigers got knocked out of BPL season six. Hailakandi Crack Gladiators, one of the favorites of the tournament, blew away the Bangladeshi team by 63 runs in the quarter finals on Friday. After this victory, the Gladiators received their semi-final clearance. They will play against Ashrin Blossom Katigorah in the second semi-final on Saturday. Before that, Barak Bulletin Strikers and Novotious Eleven Silchar will meet each other in the first semi-final of the morning.
On Friday, one of the favorites of the tournament, Badarpur Royals, was sent home by Ashrin Blossom Katigorah. Local sports-lovers see it as the biggest upset of the tournament. The Badarpur team had a bunch of stars including Apurba Wankhede and Deepak Khatri, one of the most successful players in the history of BPL as well as other star players. Despite this, the Royals had to lose by seven wickets against Katigorah team.
Batting first, Badarpur Royals managed to score 119 runs for 9 wickets. The team’s IPL star Apurba Wankhede scored 24 runs. Besides, Roshan Madhav scored 18 runs and Vikas scored 10 runs. Superstar of the tournament Deepak Khatri returned to the pavilion with just one run. Amitabh Das (4-27) and Nawaz Sharif (3-23) bowled well.
In the second innings, Ashrin Blossom picked up 120 runs after losing three wickets in 17.1 overs. Raju Das scored 16 runs, Saurabh Dey scored 37 runs and Soumyadeep Das scored 39 runs undefeated. Priyangshu Gautam took two wickets.
The second match of the day was a high voltage battle between two heavyweights Hailakandi Crack Gladiators and Bangladesh Tigers. In the ensuing rivalry, the Bangladeshi team was blown away by the Gladiators. The Hailakandi team was all out for 197 runs in 19.2 overs after being invited to bat first. This is the highest team total in the tournament so far. At one time, it seemed that the Gladiators would put up a score of 250 runs. Because at the end of 12 overs, the score of Gladiators was 173 for 2 wickets. From there they lost the last eight wickets for just 23 runs in the last seven overs.
Everyone in the team’s top order started at a stormy pace. Two openers Vishal Ghosh (47 runs off 26 balls) and captain Krishnendu Das (34 runs off 19 balls) did great attacking batting. Karan Sharma also played a good innings (41 runs off 30 balls). But Udayan Bose played the most explosive innings for the team. This right-handed batsman from Tripura played a devastating innings of 49 runs off just 16 balls. He hit seven massive sixes. One of the superstars of the tournament, Moni Shankar Mura Singh returned to dressing room with only 1 run. Zainul Islam took three wickets. Manik Khan and Syed Parvez got two wickets each.
In response, Bangladesh Tigers was all out for 134 runs in 18.4 overs. Significant contributions to the score were made by Alib Haque (41), Manik Khan (20), Mahim Ahmed (17) and Sudal Islam (16). Risabh Deepak took three wickets while Sharma and Rasan Alam two wickets each.
