After stone pelting and protests District administration decides to stop eviction in Fatak Bazar
The eviction drive in Fatak Bazar is temporarily stopped due to protest from local vendors. Since yesterday, the district disaster management authority with the support of Silchar municipality board ran an eviction operation in the Fatak Bazar area.
Yesterday, more than hundred encroached structures where demolished in the eviction drive which resumed today but the locals got united to stop the bulldozers.
There are reports that locals even went on to pelt stones on municipality vehicles which were headed towards the G Block in Fatak Bazar area. A spokesperson on behalf of the local vendors said that these evictions are just show offs from the administration and the ruling government.
While speaking to us he alleged BJP politicians of politicizing these eviction drive, “Why are they doing it on the eve of Puja? We are all in support of the administration. We too want bigger and broader roads but this is not the way. Eviction should be conducted in a systematic manner throughout the year and throughout the entire City. This photoop just before the pooja is nothing but harasment and we will leave no stone unturned in protesting further demolition.”
Representatives of the local vendors even went to DC’s office in order to exhibit their protest against the ongoing eviction.
Deputy commissioner of cachar district also the head of DDMA, S Lakshmanan however clarified that the eviction is happening after thorough discussion with all the stakeholders in the district administration. He also informed that the eviction will continue throughout the city in order to ease public life, “It is not true that we are doing it only in Fatak Bazar it’s happening everywhere and will continue,” says Lakshmanan.
After today’s protest all the stakeholders discussed the scenario among themselves and came to a decision that the eviction in the G Block of the Fatak Bazar area will be kept on hold till the end of Durga Puja, “The Matter was discussed with the respected MLA, MP and Silchar municipality board. The chairman of the board wrote a letter requesting to hold the eviction on hold until the end of Durga Puja. So as is stays the eviction will continue elsewhere as planed but we will resume in Fatak Bazar after Durga Puja,” DC further informed.
