Breaking: Karimganj district president of BJP's Yuva Morcha Biswarup Bhattacharjee surrenders
Former president of Assam University Students’ Union, Biswarup Bhattacharjee, currently the district president of Bharatiya Janata Party’s Yuva Morcha, has surrendered himself to the Cachar Police.
This comes after the students including the current general secretary of the Students’ Union blocked the Silchar – Hailakandi road demanding the immediate arrest of the former president. According to the General Secretary of Assam University Students’ Union, Arunabha Dutta, Bhattacharjee and Chakraborty assaulted research scholar Biswajit Rudrapaul.
As per the students, Bhattacharjee and his friend entered the complex where Rudrapaul resides. Late at night, when Bhattacharjee and his friends were smoking, Rudrapaul requested him to smoke outside as he has breathing problems. That allegedly irked Bhattacharjee and he responded saying, “Do you know who am I” and launched the assault.
A complaint was lodged by Biswajit Rudrapaul himself where he states, that ex-president of Assam University Students Union Biswarup Bhattacharjee and his friend Krishnangshu Chakraborty department of computer science, entered his room. “They tried to kill me with some weapons like knife blade, iron rod at around 12:30 a.m. post-midnight,” he stated in his complaint.
Adding, “When I tried to approach the police outpost at around 1:10 a.m. both of them again tried to stop me from filing the complaint. I also have a recorded video clip where they can be heard abusing me. Biswaroop has hit me with pressure cooker on my head.”
The protest was withdrawn last night after the OC of Assam University Police Outpost assured the protesting students that immediate actions as per law will be initiated against Bhattacharjee. As it turns out, Bhattacharjee himself has surrendered. According to Police sources at Silchar Sadar Police Station, officials from Assam University Police Station will now take his custody and escort him to the outpost.
It is worth mentioning here that Biswarup Bhattacharjee was in the news during the last Students’ Union election where he allegedly tried to influence the results with his political pressure. Bhattacharjee was spotted with the chief minister too and was on record to say he has powerful connections in Gauhati High Court.
