Dead body of woman recovered from Katigorah house

The dead body of a woman was recovered under mysterious circumstances from a house at Harinagar, Part-I, in Cachar district on Thursday.

The deceased Anjali Das was the wife of Chandanram Das, a resident of Harinagar.

According to sources, Chandanram lodged a first information report with Katigorah police station around 9pm on Wednesday night. He accused four neighbours Srikanta Das, Monty Das, Aparna Das and Manamala Das of being responsible for his wife’s disappearance.

A probe was thereafter initiated by the police, which tapped into its sources to find out clues about Anjali. On Thursday, police went to Srikanta’s house at Haritikar, Part-I, and recovered the dead body of Anjali, which was buried inside the ground. The police grew suspicious after observing a portion of the ground following which the area was dug and the body was recovered.

Harinagar falls under Katigorah constituency, around 34km from Silchar.

The body, which was covered with a cement bag, was sent to Silchar Medical College and Hospital for post-mortem.

A police official said the four accused were absconding and a search was on to nab them.
