MP Susmita Dev Helps Uttarakhand Rider on Women's Day; After Bike Theft in Assam
On the occasion of International Women’s Day, the Assam Pradesh Trinamool Congress (AITC) extended support to a woman rider from Uttarakhand, commonly known as Rider Noni, who recently faced an unfortunate incident in Assam. Her motorcycle was stolen from Guwahati, leaving her stranded in an unfamiliar state. Taking the matter seriously, MP Susmita Dev not only stepped in to help but also used the incident to criticise the Assam government’s handling of law and order.
To mark International Women’s Day, AITC leaders, including State President Ramen Chandra Barthakur, MP Susmita Dev, and Dulu Ahmed, honoured Rider Noni at the party’s state headquarters. During the event, the leaders acknowledged her struggles and assured her of assistance. Noni’s troubles began when her bike was stolen a few days ago while she was in Guwahati, putting her in a difficult situation far from home.
MP Susmita Dev took this opportunity to criticise Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma and his government, accusing them of failing to maintain law and order. She pointed out that such incidents were becoming more frequent and questioned the state government’s ability to ensure public safety. Dev remarked that the theft had once again exposed the administration’s inefficiency, putting Assam’s security situation under scrutiny.
She further stated that this theft had brought disgrace to Assam at the national level. The incident, she claimed, damaged Assam’s reputation and raised concerns about the safety of visitors.
“The theft of the rider’s motorcycle in Assam has tarnished the state’s reputation at the national level. This incident raises questions about Assam’s law and order. The Home Department, led by Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma, has completely failed to maintain law and order in the state. The government must arrest the culprits at the earliest.” she said in a press release.
Along with condemning the incident, MP Susmita Dev provided financial assistance to Rider Noni from her personal funds. She assured her that AITC Assam would continue to support her and ensure she received any further help required.
Rider Noni, whose real name is Pooja Talal, has been travelling across the country for the past six months to spread the message of women empowerment. Through her journey, she has been inspiring women to break barriers and embrace adventure. Sharing her thoughts on Instagram, she expressed shock over the incident, stating that her bike was stolen as soon as she entered Assam putting the incident at the eyes of the entire nation.
