Oil Tankers Carrying Liquor Released After Seizure, Mystery Deepens in Cachar
Questions have been raised after two oil tankers allegedly carrying a large quantity of liquor towards Manipur were reportedly released by police following their seizure in Cachar district.
According to sources, the two tankers bearing registration numbers MN-01-9608 and MN-05C-3416 were allegedly loaded with liquor at Moynarband in Cachar on Tuesday and were travelling towards Manipur. Acting on specific information, Baskandi Police intercepted and seized both vehicles in the Baskandi area. The drivers and co-drivers were also detained, sources said.
However, the matter took a controversial turn when, according to allegations, only a small quantity of the liquor was officially seized while the remaining consignment, along with the two tankers and the detained persons, was allegedly released later the same night.
When contacted, Baskandi Police Outpost In-charge Ripon Namasudra declined to provide a detailed explanation. He said that after the vehicles were seized, he immediately informed senior district police officials. He added that he was unable to comment on what happened afterwards or how the vehicles were released.
Meanwhile, the incident has sparked speculation and raised several questions. Unverified allegations have surfaced claiming that the release of the tankers was facilitated through the exchange of a large sum of money. There are also allegations that a senior police officer from Cachar may have been involved. However, these claims have not been independently verified, and no official statement has been issued regarding the allegations.
