Paper Mill employees likely to get 3 month's salary today

The new financial year has some good news for Hindustan Paper Corporation employees, as per sources in Central government the mill employees will get three month’s salary on March 31 itself.

Employees of the largest industry of Barak Valley have not received any remuneration since last 19 months and is going through a very tough time. In several occasions the employees demonstrated, called for strike and lately even tried to commit suicide. Three out of 19 is like a drop of water in drought, but this money will certainly help employees to bail them out of immediate crisis. October – November and December 2016 are the  three months that government is covering in the first lot.

The employees were given many assurances in the past 19 months but none materialised to anything practical. Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal during Namami Barak festival last year in front of Cabinet Minister Babul Supriyo and President Ram Nath Kovind  assured a quick solution to this problem. After that in many occasions rumours of a possible privatisation did rounds.

On February 26, 2018 after meeting various employee committees and organisations HPC managing director Shashikant Jain had announced that the employees will get three month’s salary within March and after that the employees will get remaining salaries in installments, each consisting of three month’s wages. Looks like he turned out to be a man who keeps his words.
The production is shut in the mill since last 15 months and the machines need immediate servicing. The materials are  almost wasted and the restoration of the defunct mill is a big challenge.

A source in the Government informed us that the central  government has sanctioned about Rs 18 crore to pay mill employees their three month’s wages. The source told us that the Jagi Road and Cachar Paper Mill employees will get their salary on Saturday (March 31, 2018) itself.
