SVCC announces dates of Pankaj Deb memorial Barak Premier League Cricket tournament
Over the years, if there is a T-20 tournament that all the districts of Barak Valley eagerly wait for, it is the Barak Premier League, organised by the Silchar Veteran’s Cricket Club (SVCC). This time it will be called Pankaj Deb Memorial Barak Premier League or BPL. Dr. Priyanka Deb has sponsored the glamorous tournament and associated as the title sponsor.
Niranjan Das, secretary of SVCC and chairman of the tournament committee thanked Dr. Deb for supporting the tournament. He reminded everyone about the efforts of Pankaj Deb in Cachar sports and so, he said, “It is a matter of great honour that we have the tournament in the memory of such a noble man.”
The tournament will have 12 teams and will be played following the knockout format. Players from several parts of the country will participate in the franchise format tournament. In fact, this time players from Bangladesh will also play for a team in the tournament. Local crowd favourites like Mayank Rawat, Manishkankar Mura Singh, Deepak Khatri have already confirmed their participation.
The fixture of the tournament is yet to be announced, however, the SVCC has announced the names of 11 franchises. Silchar Lions, Silchar Warriors, Badarpur Royals, Moonlight Dholai, Gumrah White Walkers, Udharbond Transformers, Dudpatil Dragons, Barak Bulletin Strikers, I Sports Dibrugarh, Blue Hills Dima Hasao, Silchar Avengers are the teams that have been announced and one more team will be added.
The tournament will start on March 11, “It the birthday of my father late Pankaj Deb and it is great that the tournament is starting on such a special day for me,” said Dr. Priyanka Deb, while declaring the date.
The winning team will get the Winner’s trophy and Rs 80,000 cash while the runner up will get Rs 40,000 cash and a trophy. SVCC has earmarked a panel that will judge the individual awards like best batter, best bowler among others. The final match of the tournament will be played under lights like last year.
