Udharbond: Dolu River Washes Away Bridge Approaches, Thousands Cut Off

Several thousand people in the Udharbond Assembly constituency have been left cut off after the approach roads of two important bridges were washed away by the swollen Dolu River following continuous rainfall in the Amar Nagar area.

According to local sources, heavy rainfall on Friday caused severe damage to the approach of a Public Works Department bridge connecting Amar Nagar and Hatichhara. The strong current of the Dolu River reportedly eroded the approach road, causing it to collapse into the river. Similarly, the approach of another PWD bridge connecting Satyanagar and Sonachhara was also washed away.

Apart from the bridge damage, nearly 500 metres of the Amar Nagar-Hatichhara road in the Sonachhara area has gone under water, further worsening the situation. With the collapse of the bridge approaches on both roads, communication links for Amar Nagar and several surrounding areas have been completely disrupted, causing immense hardship to thousands of residents.

Essential services, transportation of daily necessities and regular movement of people have been severely affected. Local residents have demanded immediate repair work to restore connectivity in the affected areas at the earliest.

On Saturday, Udharbond MLA Rajdeep Goala visited the affected locations to assess the situation. Speaking to reporters after the visit, he said that one of the bridge approaches had almost completely disappeared into the river, leading to the disruption of communication for thousands of people.

The MLA further stated that he would hold discussions with the concerned departmental authorities to ensure immediate repair of the damaged roads and bridge approaches. He also assured that necessary measures would be taken so that both roads could be made fit for traffic again as soon as possible.
