Unbeaten India Club to take on Nagaland Police in Semis on Friday; Upbeat to play in the final of Bordoloi Trophy

Silchar’s century-old India Club had started the Bordoloi Trophy football as an underdog. Placed in the group alongside defending champions ASEB top tier team Gauhati Town Club and ITBP, not many thought India Club will make it to the Semi Final. In the first match, Vir Vignesh scored a stoppage time goal to secure the biggest upset of the tournament against ASEB. Then India Club defeated the ITBP and drew against Town Club. The next step in this road to glory is Nagaland Police.

The group C champions Nagaland Police Football Team is one of the favourites in this tournament. India Club played all the group stage matches in Judges’ Field, but tomorrow, they will be at the Nehru Stadium for the semi final. That would be a change in conditions for the India Club to adapt.

India Club and Nagaland Police didn’t play against each other in recent times and so the teams don’t have much information about the playing styles of their opponents. India had a tough draw to fight and that will help them against the Nagaland Police that reached the semis after winning a toss to break the tie in the group.

Manager of India Club, Arnab Dutta said that the team is upbeat about their chances to qualify for the finals. He informed that the team has practiced together at the Nehru Stadium today to get a sense of the pace of the ground. He also emphasised on the fact that the team is gelling well together and all of them are in a positive frame of mind.

In the other semi final, Delhi Police will play against Chirag FC. Before the big semi finals, the managers of all four clubs, match referees were invited for a meal with the organisers.
