Unidentified male dead body found near National Highway Cachar district; Suspected drug overdose case

An unidentified dead body has been found in Saidpur Ward no. 4 lying near the National Highway road by the police. According to local residents, the body was discovered on Monday evening when a woman went there to fetch her cattle. The body was found in a state where a piece of cloth was shoved against his mouth with minor injuries on his knees. A piece of empty syringe was also found near the corpse. The police arrived on the scene right after they were informed of its discovery, and a mobile phone was also recovered with the unidentified corpse.

Silchar Sadar Police Station SI Kulendra Nath and Rangirkhari Police Outpost in-charge, Samarjyoti Roy, arrived on the scene after they were informed about the case. Samarjyoti Roy said, “The body has been sent for post mortem. We’re not yet sure whether it is a case of drug overdose or it’s a pre-planned murder. We’ve also recovered a mobile phone, a syringe near the body, and a piece of cloth shoved against his mouth. Till now, we are yet to ascertain his identity and whereabouts.” He also said that they’ll check with all the missing cases filed in the past few days to see if the victim was earlier reported missing or not.

The discovery of the corpse under mysterious circumstances has propagated a sense of panic among the local villagers. According to South Saidpur former GP President Abjal Hussain Laskar, around 3 pm on Monday, a local woman discovered the unidentified body in a bush near the National Highway, after which she called upon the localites for help. According to the localites, nobody seemed to have recognised the male victim and only further investigation will unravel the reason behind the death of the unidentified male.
