CM’s leadership enabled renovation of roads in Silchar; “95% work has been completed,” MLA Dipayan Chakraborty
Silchar, a city located in the southern part of Assam, is gearing up for the grand celebration of Durga Puja, the most significant festival for the people of this region. As the city prepares to welcome the festivities, its residents have been greeted with a delightful surprise – the comprehensive renovation of its roads. These newly revamped thoroughfares, marked with crisp white road divisions, have not only elevated the city’s aesthetic but also sent a resounding message of development and progress throughout Silchar.
The roadworks, executed with great precision, are the result of an innovative approach using Dense Bituminous Macadam (DBM). This advanced construction technique involves the application of multiple layers of bitumen and aggregates to create a durable, high-quality road surface that can withstand heavy traffic and adverse weather conditions.
Silchar’s Member of the Legislative Assembly (MLA), Dipayan Chakraborty, has been at the forefront of this transformation, actively monitoring the work’s progress. His unwavering commitment and dedication to the project have garnered both praise and criticism from the public. While some have criticized his visible presence as a “photo-op,” it has undeniably acted as a morale booster for the laborers and engineers involved in the project.
In an exclusive conversation with Barak Bulletin, MLA Chakraborty explained, “It is a collective effort with the Honourable Chief Minister, Himanta Biswa Sarma, as our leader, which enabled the timely renovation of these roads before the Puja. The support and guidance of the Chief Minister motivate me, and similarly, when I stand by the workers and department at night, it motivates them. Ultimately, it’s the collective will of the department that matters. These revitalized roads serve as a special gift from the Chief Minister to the people of Silchar.”
Chakraborty fondly recollected how the idea for this road renovation initiative emerged during a road trip with Chief Minister Sarma. It was there that the Chief Minister highlighted the inadequacies of roads constructed with CC Blocks and urged them to seek an alternative solution. Following this, a meeting was convened, and engineers presented various scenarios, with Dense Bituminous Macadam (DBM) emerging as a standout choice. Subsequently, tenders were issued, and the work was awarded, leading to the commencement of this Puja Special Project.
While the majority of Silchar’s roads have been given a fresh lease of life, the residents of Vivekananda Road and Chandmari Road are still grappling with potholes and waves of dust. MLA Chakraborty clarified that these two roads were not part of the Puja Special work but reassured the public that their condition will be addressed in the near future.
