Assam Premier League cricket to start on Dec 5 at Silchar DSA
Assam Premier Club Championship will begin on December 5. Silchar District Sports Association is organizing this tournament following the guidelines of the Assam Cricket Association. This is the third time Silchar DSA is organizing the tournament. DSA officials have announced this in a press meet held today. Champion of the first round, i.e. the district level champion team will get 1 lac rupees as winning prize with the promotion to play at zonal level. No prize money will be given to the runner-up team. However, the runner-up will get a trophy from DSA Silchar. There will be a ‘man of the match’ prize for each game.
This is the third occasion, DSA organizing a premier club championship as per guidelines of ACA, informed Babul Hote, president of DSA. “November 22 was the last date of registration according to ACA guidelines. Eight clubs have enrolled their names in the knockout league. At least eight team should play the first round of the tournament, as per ACA norm,” said Bijendra Singh, secretary of DSA Silchar. “ACA guidelines do not mention any provision for umpiring, but DSa would try to employ class 2 umpires in the first round” Secretary also informed. He also informed that the match fee of the umpire will be increased this time.
“ACA guidelines clearly mentioned that the district level league should be held within December 31. Where each team can register a maximum of 21 players and among them five should be below the age of 19. At least three under 19 players should have to be in the playing squad. The game will be played with a red ball in one day format of 40 overs,” informed the Secretary of Cricket Niranjan Das.
ACA has allocated 1 lac 50 thousand to each district for the first round, DSA cashier told the press. He also said that DSA will provide balls in every match from their expenses, although ACA has no guidelines regarding this. DSA will be spending Rupees 26 thousand on the balls.
This will be a knockout tournament, said the cashier answering a question, and also informed that the tied match will be decided through toss. India Club, Town Club, Uttarpara Club, Popular Club, Jogajog Sangha, United Club, Tarapur AC, and Sonai Cricket Association are the teams playing this tournament.
Initially, the tournament was scheduled from December 12, but that schedule is colliding with under 16 inter-district tournaments, and for so the tournament has been preponed, Cashier informed.
