Bangladeshi Couple Detained At Churaibari Check Gate, ‘Seeing Unusual Rise In Infiltration’ Says Karimganj SP
On Tuesday evening, two Bangladeshi nationals were apprehended again by Churaibar Police at the interstate border check gate in Churaibari. They were detained while fleeing to Guwahati by a Sherowali Nightsuper Bus (AS 01 JC 0979), a team of Churabari Police under SI Mintu Shill were able to detect them during a routine Naka checking. The Detainees could not produce any valid travel document at the time of detention. Detainees are Md. Naim Uddin (24) and Sabnur Ansari (19) are married couples and hail from Kishoreganj District of Bangladesh.
According to the police information, they sneaked into India through the border near Agartala, Tripura. They boarded the bus from Agartala ISBT to Guwahati, and their destination was Murshidabad, West Bengal. During the Naka checking, they could not produce any valid travel document; however, Police could not find or recover any offensive possession from the detainees. They are now being kept behind the bar at Bazarichara Police Station for further interrogation and will be produced to the Karimganj Chief Judicial Magistrate Court today.
In the context of the apprehensions of Bangladeshi Nationals at Churaibari Gate, it has to be mentioned that almost 15 Bangladeshi nationals have been apprehended at Churaibari Check Gate since October 2021. “We have been seeing an increase in the rate of illegal trespassing for few months, but the reason behind this is not known,” Padmanabh Baruah, the Superintendent of Police of Karimganj, told Barak Bulletin. “They are not confessing any specific reason in interrogations, but it seems they are sneaking to India for livelihood and economic purposes. As we are not recovering anything objectionable from them,” Padmanabh Baruah, the Indian Police Service Officer, added. “We don’t have any specific yearly or periodical data of how many Bangladeshi nationals have been arrested, but in last one month, 15 Bangladeshi Nationals were arrested,” Mr. Baruah informed Barak Bulletin. “Police or Court doesn’t punish any physical punishment to these apprehended Bangladeshis, they are produced to the CJM Court, and court punishes them with imprisonment or in some instances monetary fines,” the Police Super also informed.
In the previous crackdown, Churaibari Police was able to capture one Indian broker, complicit in this. But several questions remained unanswered. How can these Bangladeshi nationals trespass into India illegally through the Agartala border, and how are they able to travel almost 200 Kilometer into the Indian Territory and pass through nearly 25 police stations in Tripura.
