
Cachar Police Seize Drugs Worth Nearly Rs. 4 Crore in Two Separate Operations, Three Arrested
Cachar Police achieved two major successes in their ongoing anti-drug operations, seizing a large quantity of yaba tablets and heroin worth nearly Rs. 4 crore in separate raids and arresting three alleged drug traffickers.
In the first operation, a team of Cachar Police conducted a raid on the Silchar Bypass based on specific intelligence inputs. During the operation, police intercepted a scooter and recovered around 29,000 yaba tablets. One alleged trafficker was arrested in connection with the seizure.
According to police, the estimated black market value of the seized yaba tablets is around Rs. 2.9 crore. A case has been registered and further investigation is underway.
In another operation near the Assam-Meghalaya border at Gumrah, police seized a large quantity of suspected heroin and arrested two alleged traffickers from Nagaon district.
Acting on a tip-off, officers from Gumrah Police Station laid a trap near the old MVI Gate area along the National Highway. Police stopped a vehicle bearing registration number AS 01 DN 5202 and conducted a search.
During the search, officers recovered 15 soap cases containing suspected heroin. The seized contraband weighed approximately 177 grams. Police estimate its market value to be around Rs. 1 crore.
The arrested persons have been identified as Hasan Ali and Siddique Islam, both residents of Nagaon district. Police alleged that the drugs were being transported to Meghalaya for illegal trafficking.
Further investigation is in progress to determine the source and intended recipients of the seized narcotics.
