Three Bangladeshi Nationals Held in Cachar While Trying to Sneak Across Border
Three Bangladeshi nationals were detained by police in Gumrah area of Cachar district while allegedly attempting to cross the border and return to Bangladesh illegally. According to police sources, the three individuals had entered India unlawfully in 2012 and had been living in different parts of the country while remaining hidden from authorities. The incident came to light after police intercepted their alleged plan to flee through the border route from Cachar.
Police said the three had recently arrived in Cachar from Bengaluru and were preparing to cross into Bangladesh through illegal means. However, acting on specific inputs, police launched an operation on Tuesday and detained all three before they could proceed with their plan. The detained individuals have been identified as Rina Akhtar, Mohammad Awal and Mohammad Harun. Officials suspect that the trio had been residing in India without valid documents for several years.
Sources stated that the accused had managed to avoid detection for a long period by frequently changing locations and staying in different states. Their movement from Bengaluru to Cachar reportedly raised suspicion, following which police intensified surveillance in the Gumrah area. The operation was carried out successfully, preventing what authorities described as an illegal cross-border movement attempt.
Police are currently interrogating the detained Bangladeshi nationals to gather further details regarding their stay in India, their activities over the years and whether more individuals were involved in the network. Officials have not yet disclosed whether any forged documents or other materials were recovered during the operation. Further investigation into the matter is underway.
